May started with a bang as Kirstenbosch saw between 350 and 400 Cape West Teddies, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Guiders, Trefoil Guilders and parents descending on the ticket office. Initially not an easy flow through but a wonderful morning was spent exploring the Boomslang Walk, the medicinal and useful plants and the Braille and fragrance trails.
All “collapsed” grateful on the lawns “booked” by the Trefoil Guilders to enjoy the picnics brought along as we continued to appreciate our surroundings and the perfect weather conditions. Thanks to Cathy Hannay and many others for all the hard work and a special thank you to so many parents for joining us and being part of what your daughters are doing.
The new programme continues to be explored and assimilated and this term saw a regional branch training and two inter-district trainings.
We had a good turn-out for the Regional AGM on 26 May. We enjoyed hearing of the experiences of three Rangers who participated in the Scout Cederberg Adventure in December last year. The business was dispatched quite speedily and ten minutes into load shedding we were making our way across to the Guide hall for tea. Our motto of “Be Prepared” stood us in very good stead! Thanks to the Trefoil Guilders for ensuring there were hot cups
the first weekend of the school holidays. It was an action-packed 29 and a half hours that left the participants reeling a bit but they learnt so much that is going to stand them in good stead within their units and the region.
The Regional Committee meeting on 20 June was followed by a Strategic Planning exercise led by an outside facilitator, Wayne Golding, and the report back will be done by Jacqui Augustyn. Many came up with good ideas but everyone will need to action them so that they can bear fruit. You will all hear more of this when the report-back goes out next term.
Many thanks to the districts that did support the National raffle. Cape Point Trefoil Guild contributed R22.85 each and Cape Pen topped the districts with an average of R15.75 per member. We will be in touch with both groups next term to see how they would like to be rewarded
The shop and office will close at 4pm on Thursday 2 July and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 21 July. The office staff have been working very hard, inter alia to complete the census and reconcile the membership payments, organise the regional committee meeting and send out the minutes and do the recon of the National raffle so they have earned this short break. Many thanks too to all of the districts that have sent their paper work and money in on time – that really makes our lives easier!
I do hope you will all have a good winter break and will enjoy your Guiding in the second half of 2015.

July 2015
FROM THE DESK OF THE REGIONAL PRESIDENT:
Thank you to everyone who attended the Regional AGM. How lovely to see such a good turnout. Warmest congratulations to
of tea and coffee ready for us.
In June, a group of enthusiastic Rangers and adults spent two nights at the Scout campsite Appleton on top of Signal Hill. There were many first time campers and I think they will all be back again. We were shrouded in morning and evening mists creating an almost surreal atmosphere. Cooking for the evening meals was in patrols and for many that meant much learnt. There were various other activities: a 7km hike round the base of Lion’s Head, games, crafts, a campfire and for many a highlight was the early-morning visit to the nearby Kramat where Fouzia van der Fort and her father gave us much interesting background information and then made it possible for us to be present at the prayers of a family wishing farewell to some of their members about to leave for Mecca. An unexpected privilege to be able to share in the faith of another cultural group.
Many thanks to Michelle Thomson for all the hard work that went into preparing and running this camp that gave girls a chance to experience sleeping under canvas and to all the staff, especially the QM, Meggan Groom.
Another group of people who worked hard to produce a special experience includes the two Ts – Tanya Paulse as Guide Advisor and Tanya Prinsloo who QMed for the PL and Second Training at Meadowridge over everyone who received awards. Cape West is again well to the fore in excellence.
