Adult Leaders are what we call our FABULOUS volunteers. They use much of their spare time to teach, lead and (most of all) have fun with the girls! Becoming an adult leader is – for the right ladies – simple, fun and rewarding! What do Adult Leaders Do?
Lead young girls in their guiding journey
Adult leaders are voluntary adult ladies who use their spare time to guide and advise the young girls we have in our organisation.
Run a Unit
As an adult leader you can choose which branch you’d like to be involved with, and work your way up to being the leader of that unit.
Assist in a Unit
Adult leaders also dedicate their time to helping assist in units, the more hands the better when working with the many girls!
Requirements to Being an Adult Leader
Time & Dedication
Being adult leader will take a relative amount of spare time. Meetings are between 1 - 2 hours once a week. There is, of course, time needed to plan meetings, and many optional (but fun!) activities throughout the year.
Creativity and Passion
While the girls learn from a program, there is much creative freedom in how you lead them and help them earn their badges and gain new skills.
Love for Children
It really is all about the girls in Guiding. And so perhaps the most important requirement to become an adult leader is a love for children and spending time teaching them.
We do have a process, where we insist on doing checks on anyone wishing to become adult leaders. This is simply to ensure the safety of the girls.Â
Why You Should Become an Adult Leader
As much as adult leaders contribute to the girls’ growth as young independent women, there is so much that is gained by the volunteers as well! This includes, but is not limited to the following.Â
Meet New People
Once you join the Girl Guide family, you have a whole new tribe! Meet other leaders from your area, as well as from all over the world!
Experience New things
Find yourself experiencing life through new eyes! See things and try things that may not have been available to you otherwise.
Develop and Grow Yourself
As you help the girls develop and learn, you will undoubtedly learn new things as you go. Gain skills that will help you in the real world.
